Sharing knowledge

LIMES professionals see specialist knowledge in the field of tax and global mobility as a sort of lifeline. At LIMES international, we continuously invest in international knowledge, one of the pillars supporting our organisation and our services. To give other professionals access to this knowledge and allow them to become acquainted with our company without a lot of effort, we offer the LIMES academy. Here, various international topics are discussed, like social security, labour migration and law, taxation, payroll, pension and insurance. We want to make our knowledge and know-how accessible to everyone, so all our seminars and workshops are offered free of charge. All you need to do is register online.

This knowledge centre presents a range of seminars, workshops and in-house presentations in which we offer HR professionals, payroll administrators, lawyers, tax and global mobility managers and other professionals up-to-date knowledge, fascinating practical case studies and solutions to challenging issues. The dynamic interaction with participants makes the LIMES academy seminars and workshops very personal. What’s more, it assures continuous alignment of knowledge with daily practice and vice versa. And one aspect that certainly should not be underestimated is the networking possibilities, which are extensive. The groups are compact – usually no more than 15 participants – so there is plenty of opportunity for discussions among peers during LIMES academy sessions. LIMES academy organises sessions in Valkenburg (Zuid-Holland), and is also active in Amsterdam.

Our seminars & workshops

The LIMES academy programme consists of knowledge sessions, workshops, seminars and topical sessions. We present a summary of our permanent programme below.

If you have any questions, we’d love to hear from you. You can contact us at info@limesacademy.com

1. International social security

Social security plays an important, often underestimated role in international employment. It raises a lot of questions like, ‘Under which country’s social insurance system is the employee covered?’ ‘Can the employee continue to have social security coverage through their home country?’ ‘What are the formalities?’ In short, are all the risks concerning your employees known and are they still covered? During this seminar we use practical examples to explain what you can or should do in which situation to prevent issues relating to social security arising.

2. Labour migration

Your employee from abroad may need to have a work permit before they can start working in the Netherlands. Do you know in which cases you need to apply for a work permit and what the risks are if you fail to do so? And are you aware of the pitfalls and opportunities in the various procedures? Is this an ‘intra-group transfer’ or is the employee coming over a knowledge migrant? We address all these matters and allow room for discussing issues arising from participants’ real-life situations.

3. Tax implications of cross-border employment

International employment has tax implications, both for the employer and the employee. In which country will the wages need be taxed?
What does this depend on? This seminar answers these questions and more. It also explains just how crucially important good communication and interaction between HR, Payroll, Operations and Finance are. The ‘30% ruling’ (tax break for expats to cover extra expenses) is covered as well.

4. Dutch national budget, international update

When it comes to changes in national (and international) legislation regarding cross-border employment, there’s never a dull moment. In this session we run through the key developments and changes arising from the Dutch government’s annual spending plans.

Workshop: Payroll in the Netherlands

The proper handling of staff payroll is a challenge for many companies, both when employees are being sent abroad and when employees from abroad come to the Netherlands to work. ‘How do we ensure that these employees get what they are entitled to?’ ‘How do we make tax equalisation and hypotax arrangements?’ These are just a few of the questions facing employers that are covered in this workshop.
